DISCUSSION I

About The DISCUSSION

What methods are we using to pass down knowledge, careers, and pedagogies within the art of clowning?

Moderator: Zéd Cézard Montréal

04.05 – 15 h- 17 h
Le Gésu, 1200 Rue de Bleury
French, with English translations
120 minutes

During this panel, we will collectively ask what measures clowns are implementing to create a “legacy,” to pass on their knowledge, and to leave a mark of their artistic and personal journeys (as the two are often intertwined). Is literature sufficient? Do new digital platforms open up other avenues for transmission? Should the continuity of students be relied upon to carry forward practices and pedagogies? How are clowns organizing—or how should they organize—to ensure the viability and sustainability of transmission? What responsibilities do clown schools, festivals, and organizations have in this regard, and how can they fulfill them?

Panelists: Anna-Karyna Barlati (École Nationale du Cirque); Francine Côté (Fondatrice École de Clown et Comédie), Yves Dagenais (metteur en scène et artiste), Jackie Gosselin (co-fondatrice, DynamO Théâtre), Jean Saucier (École de Clown et Comédie)

Moderated by Zéd Cézard

Translations: Miriam Heap-Lalonde
